This & That ~ Sandpoint Childrens Photographer

September 2, 2010

OK….I know I promised last night for a super cute sneak peek this morning….but first some news.  I always think a news letter would be great……but finding the time for another project at this moment is just too much!

First of all, I completely forgot my manners last night and wanted to apologize.  So Sorry!  I owe so many people a big THANK YOU!  And even if I have written you a private note, or told you in person, I wanted to do so again here….just in case you really didn’t know how THANKFUL I was!  Thanks to my grandma Pat for taking care of me and my babies when I was off in la-la land the day of the incident – I am so thankful you were with me and I can’t tell you how reassuring it was to know the kids were taken care of while I was being transported in the ambulance and in the ER…..THANKS to my mama for taking off of work immediately to come help me in CDA and for cleaning my house, doing my laundry, cooking my food, moving furniture for carpet cleaning, and taking care of my family this last week while I have been out of it.  (Ryan misses you!  hee hee)  We all do!  Love you!  Thanks to my grandma Mary for coming out and helping us too…..AND for cleaning my fridge!  She’s the best!  Thank you to my sweet husband, who is on the verge of a break down from having to “take over” as Mr Mom this last week….you have been AMAZING and I love you so much!   SO MUCH!  Thank you to my babies who are hanging in there while mama is out of commission…..sissy told me yesterday “I will take care of you mommy…..just breathe mommy…..breathe……breathe….that’s it!  Now you are better!”  And my son who has been my biggest helper.  Thank you Randy for coming into the hospital when we had to take Owen in and also for you and Glenda watching the kids the other day so I could rest.   Thank you Jen for calling and checking on me day after day…sorry I was always a mess to talk!   Thank you to Amy, Margaret, the nurse that helped me, all my ER doctors, ER nurses, medical staff, and Dr Owens.  Thank you to all my friends and family for the well wishes….it means so much!  And if I missed anyone, I am super sorry!!!  But THANK YOU!  Oh yes…thank pain pills for helping me get through this awful time…but I think you have done more than enough.  You can go on to help someone else now……

I have some exciting announcements coming up….don’t want to give too much away right now, but I have been working on some special projects that I am super excited about!   Hopefully my first one will be released soon!   Also, stay tuned for some great sneak peeks coming up this month…..lots of awesome senior girls….gorgeous brides and their weddings….and some adorable toddlers!  I am also hoping to get a few mini sessions in with Bella…..I have a tutu and fairy wings that have been sitting in my room waiting patiently for some photos!  AND a new Matilda Jane outfit on the way!  I have waited 2 years to get sissy a MJ outfit!!!!   If you can’t tell….I am SUPER EXCITED!

Lastly…I am planning on doing mini family photo sessions this fall!  YAY!   I was hoping to release all the info at the beginning of the month…..but under the circumstances, it’s going to be another week or two.  What I can tell you, is that they will be held in October and I will be posting this years holiday cards soon!    As of right now, I am booked for September, have a couple openings for full sessions left in October and November and will only be taking a limited number of mini’s….so if you are planning on photos this fall, please contact me soon!   I am taking December off for sure and possibly January too.  BUT as always…..I do take newborns anytime!!! So if you are having a baby and would like to get newborn photos, please let me know right away.  It is best to plan ahead for newborn photos as they photograph best when they are less than two weeks old.   I can’t stress enough to schedule soon if you are expecting!  I want to make sure I have enough room!  Right now I have 3 babies scheduled for the end of October and could not be more excited!!!!  I am in the process of making a new blanket AND am planning on getting some darling head bands….I already know one of the babies coming up is a GIRL!!!  Whoop!  Finally!  Some pink around here!  :D

And of course a photo for my post…..Princess Bella.  I got a quick photo of her yesterday on the swing while she was brushing her hair with the bubble wand and making sure it was just right by looking in her pink magic mirror…because that’s what princesses do you know!  Wishing you a great day!

Weekend ~ North Idaho Childrens Photographer

August 19, 2010

Yeppers…..other than Monday’s post, it’s been pretty slow around here and the forecast for next week is not looking much better.   BUT for good reason!   I have been editing away and tackling my never ending to do list!!!  I am happy to say, it is getting shorter!  Woot!   Sometimes it’s best to just step away from the things that are consuming a lot of time….when you DON’T have a lot of time and too many things to do!    For me, that means my facebook and blog!  :(     So…..for now I am stepping away for the rest of the week and weekend!    BUT, leaving you with one of my artsy fartsy pictures……..sometimes it’s fun to get photos of something other than people!!  I love the lines in this photo and the colors…..can you guess what it is???

See you next week!

Hmmmm ~ Sandpoint Childrens Photographer

June 10, 2010

A little bit of this and that today……

* Summer is right around the corner….I can feel it!!!  I am really hoping the weather clears up this afternoon for a fun family session I have scheduled with the winner of the Fairytale give away, who just happens to be a friend of mine from high school!  Can’t wait to meet her little guy!!!

* Last night, we had a family date night….went to 2nd Ave for pizza – our favorite!….and then to Starbucks for an after dinner treat!…BAD IDEA!  I was up until 3:00 am this morning!  OUCH!  Then, off to see Shrek in the movie theater!   It was the first time the kids have been to a movie so it was super fun!!!   I told my husband he better stop and get tickets before dinner just in case we couldn’t get in!!!   I know, I know sounds silly for a movie on a Wednesday night….but hey!  The last time I went to a movie was 5+ years ago!  I am a little rusty!  ;)   Well….that certainly wasn’t the case because us four and two other girls had the entire movie theater to ourselves!!! ha!  I guess nobody wanted to go to the movies in the middle of the week during a horrendous thunder/rain storm!!!   No…just the Bailey Circus!  ;)    But that was OK….we loved every minute of it!!!   Even the power outage half way through!   If you haven’t seen it, it really is an awesome movie!

* I finally added a facebook page for Bailey’s Plumbing Inc!  I am not too sure my hubby is very excited about that…but, he leaves the computer work to me….so now he has a page!  hee hee  Please go over and give him some “love”….like him!  He doesn’t know what “like” is….but I know he will appreciate it!  And plus!  You never know when you might need a plumber!  ;)

*  Speaking of face book LOVE…..I am 10 itty bitty people away from having 600 “likers”!  WOOT!  So if you aren’t a liker yet, please stop on over and like my page!   Another give away coming once I hit 600!!!  :D

*  I have seriously been neglecting my garden lately.  Neglecting a lot of things actually.  And not even sure why I am posting that….but just getting it out makes me feel better.  Odd I know.

*  OK…speaking of neglecting things….my kitchen is on that list….so I better get going…..have some house to clean and a newborn session to finish up!!!

*  Last one…..I am really into the smiley’s today…could you tell?  :)   :D   ;)   :P

*  OK…for reals….last one….what do you think this little darling is thinking?  I don’t know either….but she sure is cute!!!   And I love her dress!!!   Another Fairytales favorite!  :D    More to come of this sweet angel soon!!!   And of course I can’t end without a :D

Alphabet Craze!!! ~ North Idaho Photographer

April 22, 2010

OK….I am running out of time on my alphabet challenge so instead of doing a post for each letter….I am doing one big post with 5 letters today!  Alphabet overload!  I still need to finish 7 letters…eek!!  Hoping I can pull it off!!!  But instead of worrying about that right now….on to the letters I do have done!!!  :D

“H” is for Holding Hands…..I can’t tell you how much I LOVE this photo!!!

“T” is for Tiny Turtle…..Owen’s preschool teacher found this one day on a walk and brought it into the class to show everyone.  Someone’s kid…I am not going to say who’s kid….but SOMEONE’s kid held this tiny little creature then dropped it because it “snatched” at his hand, and it hurt, so he dropped it.    Don’t ask me how I know this, I just do.  ;)     But don’t worry, this photo was taken after the alleged “dropping” of the tiny turtle and I am pretty sure it is fine!  I hope!

“D” is for Dad…..

“R” is for Riding…..non stop riding since Saturday when he ventured out on his own without his daddy!  I think we may have to get an additional job to pay for gas!!!

“E” for Eyelash……on a BOY too!!!  NOT FAIR I know!  But gorgeous anyways!   I had the pleasure of taking this little guys photos this week……just one for today…..more next week!!!  :D

Memory Lane…

April 21, 2010

This April I have found myself thinking about two things over and over again.  The first, my children and the wonderful fact that I found and eliminated my melanoma skin cancer (April 06)  in time before it spread.  And the second, my photography.  April 09 is when I started my business “officially” and just 10 months prior to that when I purchased my first “real” camera!  These two events would change my life forever.    Owen was 10 mo old when I discovered my cancer and sissy was still a twinkle in her daddy’s eye.  Life could have been so different for all of us….but it’s not….and I am so GRATEFUL!  I will always continue on my path of learning everything I can to be and stay healthy…..and to help my family do the same.   And I never forget what a blessing it is to see my children grow and our family grow in so many ways.   My angels are the reason I became obsessed with photography…..and since I am their mama I just happen to think they are super CUTE….and I wanted their lives documented for them.   I could ramble on and on all day about this or that….because honestly it’s one of those days….but for your sake if you are reading this I won’t!  ;)    The point is, I have been thinking about the cancer and the beginning of my photography…..which prompted me to go back and look at my photos from when I just started taking pictures with a dslr.   I go back thru all my old photos every year at the same time….Owen’s birthday….Bella’s birthday…..and every April.

When thinking about April 2006, these next two photos represent so much to me.  This first one was taken the evening I found out the weird pink sunburnt looking mole on my arm taken off the week before was Melanoma.  My sister was with me that day to watch Owen while I went in to get the results….and when I came out I grabbed Owen and held him for dear life and cried and cried and cried.  I was so scared.   They were sure the cancer had been extracted in the biopsy, but we wouldn’t know for sure until the wide excision was done.  That night Ryan, Owen, and I were closer than ever.  My sister took a bunch of pictures of us 3 the next couple days.  Photos that are seriously priceless.

Being faced with cancer and the possibility of death….pictures took on a new meaning for us….at the time, we thought the pictures might be the only thing our sweet 10 month old would have to remember his mama by.  THANK God that wasn’t the case.  Daddy took this next one a couple days later….one of my favorite photos ever!   Shhhh!  don’t tell anyone, but Owen is a mama’s boy….always has been……he doesn’t LOOK like a mama’s boy – he looks oh so cool here……yes, he’s always been weird even at 10 mo old!…..but really we were just trying on some new bandana’s that would become a staple for us in the summer at the beach while swimming when we were not wearing our hats!  A new way of life for all of us.  Back then it was clear, life would never be the same as we knew it!  Just for the record, the pink bandana is mine!   ;)

Fast forward to April 2009 and the start of Staci Bailey Photography.   Really….when I think of the beginning of my business….I don’t think of April 09….I think back to when I got my first “real” camera way back in June 08.  In scouring my old photos, I found a few that I loved back then….and still love today and thought I would share.   These next two were taken in June 08…just days after getting my camera…..I had SO MUCH to learn back then….exposure and composition were still a mystery to me, but I remember feeling so proud that I achieved some bokeh (the blurry background)  and the photos were in focus!   And of course I am obsessed with Bella’s eyelashes and Owen’s eyes.  :D

I took tons of pictures every day practicing and practicing…..now looking back I think I should have LOOKED at the photos because clearly my son needs a haircut!  EEK!

Geez!  Poor guy!  These were taken in August TWO months later and his hair is even longer!  And with that hat, he is definitely in Gilligan status!  But I didn’t care…I think he’s cute no matter what….and my photography learning was continuing and I had FOUND the light!!!   I will never forget that day…..we were eating lunch with my grandma outside at Dover Bay and it just clicked for me!   I could “SEE” the light and could not be more excited!!!  I think I drove my kids and my grandma crazy from taking pictures the entire lunch….but I didn’t care….I had just taken another step forward in my photography!!!  Woo Hoo!!!   I love when I find spectacular light for Owen’s eyes….they just sparkle!

Sissy was about a year and a half and of course had no interest in looking at me, but that is OK.  She was (and is) beautiful so any angle I was happy with!   I had found the light and just wanted to take picture after picture!   I can see now the processing on my older photos was a bit much, but that is all in the process of learning and growing….which I hope I continue doing for a long time!

One thing that hasn’t changed from back then to now is how much these two love each other.  They are best buds and I am so thankful for that!   Owen is his sister’s protector and she is his never ending cheerleader….in fact I have been going a little crazy lately because Owen starts soccer this week.  It’s not the fact that my baby is beginning his first sport that is driving me bonkers….it’s the cheerleader of the house with her pom poms yelling cheers and practicing for Owen’s soccer games…..”Go Owen!  Go Owen! Go! Go! Go!” …..”Yeah! Owen’s soccer!  Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!”……these and many more have been ringing in my ears for days now.   The cheer practicing I could skip….but seeing it in person I can not wait for!   ;)

Another favorite of mine from Aug 08…..showcasing those gorgeous eyes and the chubby baby cheeks that I love to kiss….sigh.  He’s barely 3 here and looks so grown up.    I know he wasn’t grown up back then, but today he is getting closer……just this weekend he started driving his 4 wheeler all by himself…I can’t believe it….yesterday I was changing his diapies and goo gooing at him….and today he starts soccer and can drive a 4 wheeler by himself!  OK….this post has officially gotten depressing!

Another milestone….FINALLY getting sissy’s hair into pigtails!

And just two short months after I purchased my first “real” camera….I got my first “real” photo that I was proud of then….and still so proud of today!  I just love this photo and had to post it.  Going back thru the oldies but goodies I ran across the original.  You have seen this photo before, but back then in my early days I was still learning and goofed by cutting off her little fingers when cropping the photo.   Excited to find the original and see that her fingers were in the original shot….I edited it again and now LOVE it even more!!!!  This one is going to get printed big very soon!  This photo represents so much to me……how far I had come in just two short months in my photography…..how lucky I was to have this little angel in my life along with her brother…..and how BEAUTIFUL she really is!  From the gorgeous eyes, chubby cheeks, button nose, full lips, long elegant fingers, her sweet personality shining thru, to the simple FACT that she is here….which means that I am alive and cancer free!

Thanks for going down memory lane with me today!  Hopefully I didn’t bore any of you to death…..now I have to go…..Bella just came into the office with quarter sized eyes and yelled “Something is ruffing!!!  The Dog!  The UPS man!”  Which means the UPS man has just delivered my 8×10’s I ordered for critique at the Baby as Art workshop!!!   I really can’t believe it’s just 3 short days away!!!!   Happy Wednesday!

Playing Around…

March 24, 2010

Today started out a little slow and sluggish for me….but has been improving by the hour!  About an hour ago the UPS man came to my house and delivered my newest baby….the 100mm macro lens!  I have been wanting this lens for quite some time now…..and finally it is in my bag for keeps!   This lens is so amazing!  I can’t wait to try it out on a ton of different things….but for today….the munchkins were my victims……muwahahaha!    But hey….we just bought a bunch of girl scout cookies so it wasn’t too hard to persuade them to sit still for 5 minutes!    This macro lens takes pictures up close….I mean REALLY up close!  It can capture the tiny details straight out of camera without having to crop the original photo which can result in losing some of the resolution.    It is going to be GREAT for baby and wedding photos……just perfect for getting all those tiny little details to remember!  Plus, it comes with an image stabilizer that helps in getting that extra sharp photo!    Just a few for today….I was about 6 inches from their faces, shot these wide open, and you can see that the depth of field is very, very shallow at f2.8…just how I like it!

Miss Bella……I dread the day she asks to wear mascara!

Peek!  I know, I know…..you are probably thinking what I am thinking….close up of eyes are kind of creepy…..but I just had to share this one…..I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE being this close and seeing every detail and color of her beautiful eyes!  You can see how shallow the depth of field is with her eye being in focus and her lashes right above it being out of focus…..all right I am done……I will stop the shop talk…..hee hee.

And the Big “O”….sigh….some day those lashes are going to mesmerize a girl….oh wait…they already do!…..ME!

That’s all for today…must get back to work and stop playing…..but I will have more coming I am sure!!!

Barbara Schriber Designs ~ Sandpoint Product Photographer

February 28, 2010

Barbara Schriber Designs

About a month ago….I KNOW!  I have been major slacking!………a client and friend of mine Barbara Schriber (and hopefully still a client and friend after my tardiness on getting these photos done!) asked me to take some pictures of a couple of products from her business.   I was honored and so excited to do this product shoot!   Barb had told me she sold handmade cards, wrapping paper, etc. so I was very curious to see her products.   We met downtown at Fairytales of course…my home away from home…..for the hand-off of product.  Upon receiving the box, I had absolutely no idea what was inside……but when I took the lid off of that box I literally gasped!   The products inside were just darling…..and I immediately fell in LOVE with them.   Here’s why.  Not only are they my friend’s awesome work…..but I LOVE vintage.  And I can not for the life of me create anything vintage….I think that is why I am so drawn to it.  AND I also love glitter!  All of her products use real German glass glitter and just sparkle like crazy!  I am absolutely smitten by her darling and whimsical products!

Small Boxes ~ The small boxes she offers are my absolute favorite……these little boxes are BEAUTIFUL!   They are just so dainty and feminine….and a perfect little holder for keepsakes and treasures!

Chocolate Bars ~ OK….HELLO CHOCOLATE!  These beauties are 3.5 oz of dark chocolate imported from Belgium and are Rainforest Alliance Certified.   They come packaged in various gorgeous papers with your choice of any phrase and of course also have a good dose of the German glass glitter.  They are so pretty I would have a hard time eating them!  Oh OK….who am I kidding?  I would gobble that dark chocolate right up….hopefully I can get this product back to Barb WITH the chocolate bars still inside!  Did I mention they are DARK chocolate?  Yes I think I did…..(wiping drool from my face)….MUST…PUT….DARK CHOCOLATE BARS….BACK….IN…THE….BOX!   Phew!  That was close!

Gift Tags ~ And the Gift Tags with a little German glass glittah BLING! BLING!……need I say more?  I think it speaks for itself!   STUNNING!

Barbara Schriber Designs is a small wholesale manufacturing company specializing in handmade vintage-inspired gifts.   To see more of her gorgeous products click here!  If you love vintage….you will absolutely LOVE everything Barbara Schriber Designs offers.     And because I just can not finish this post without mentioning another favorite…..check out page #2 of the catalog here!  Aren’t these vintage letter cards AMAZING?

Thank you so much Barb for having me take photos of your awesome products!   AND thank you for your patience!  :-D
